Tuesday, September 2nd (tomorrow) is the deadline for turning in the fundraising order forms and payments. Please send the envelope to school with your child so they can turn it into their teacher.
September 2nd is also our first PTO meeting. Please join us in the media center at 7:00 pm. We will be discussing upcoming events and Mr. Moss will be speaking to all parents in attendance. There will be free babysitting in the Kindergarten pod. We hope to see you there!!
We are looking for volunteers for the Vision/Hearing Screenings that will be held on Monday August 25th, Tuesday August 26th, Wednesday August 27th and Thursday August 28th.
If you are able to volunteer, we would greatly appreciate it. The shifts will be approximately 2 hours each. Please click on the link provided below to sign up for a volunteer shift. You may sign up for more than one shift a day or more than one date if you would like. If you are signing up for more than one day, you will have to click on each day separately to sign up for multiple dates.
Please sign in at the office and get a visitor sticker then report to the nurses office a few minutes prior to the start of your shift.
**If you have not volunteered at Ashland Ridge within the last 5 years, you will need to stop in at the office one week ahead of time to fill out the form for a background check. All volunteers must have the background check completed before volunteering.
Monday, August 18th is our first Wendy’s Night. Please join us from 5:00-8:00pm, as 10% of all sales, dine-in or drive-thru, are donated to the PTO. Flyers will be coming home with your students Monday, or you can download the Wendy’s Night Flyer. Just complete the bottom portion of the flyer and turn it in to the people at the table inside the front door, or to the drive-thru attendant. The class with the most in attendance will get a frosty party!!!
We are excited to offer Ashland Ridge spirit wear again this year! Order forms will be sent home with students during the first week of school or you can download the Spirit Wear Shirt Order Form. The form does include online ordering information. Place your order by Sept. 5th to receive your items in time for Homecoming!
Due to size variations between brands, we strongly recommend checking on sizes before placing your order since we cannot accept returns. Based on what we’ve seen this week, the Girls Fitted shirt is running about 2 sizes smaller than you’d expect. Also, the YOUTH sizes for the Boys Sport Tek, the Hoodie, and the Fleece are running larger than expected. The Short-Sleeve t-shirt, Long-Sleeve t-shirt, Crew Neck, and all adult sizes seem to be running reasonably standard. Please take this into consideration when placing your order. Sample sizes will be available during Back-to-School night on Aug. 19th.

The Ashland Ridge PTO has begun planning for the 2014-2015 school year. We still have several positions open, and in order to hold some of our events, we’re going to need additional volunteers. We have listed some open positions below that we need help with this year. Please look over these and let us know if you are willing to help. Some of these events are at risk of being cancelled if we can’t find someone to help coordinate them.
– Kindergarten Boo Hoo Breakfast – Each year we hold a continental breakfast for the incoming kindergarten parents at 7:45 on the first day of school. If you would be willing to help coordinate and set up for this event.
– Wendy’s Night Coordinator – On the 3rd Monday of each month, it is Ashland Ridge night at Wendy’s. We need someone to coordinate this event. Each night there is a different teacher group that hosts the event, but we need someone to get information to the teachers the Friday before Wendy’s night, and work with the teachers to plan the frosty party for the class with the most in attendance (meaning coordinating a time with the teachers, contacting Wendy’s night with the date, time, and number of frosties needed, and picking up to deliver to the school on the date of the party).
– Secretary – We need a secretary for the PTO. This is an officer position, and you would be responsible for taking notes at the PTO meetings (1st Tuesday of each month), typing up those minutes within a week or 2 after the meeting, and putting together the monthly newsletter for the school secretary toward the end of each month (with information from the rest of the PTO board and committees).
– Vice President – we are also in need of 2 Vice Presidents for the PTO. The Vice President helps out with various activities throughout the year, and fills in for the President when she is not available.
Currently, the only people on the PTO board are a President and 2 Treasurers. The President’s youngest child is in 5th grade, so she will not be with the PTO next year. We need people who are interested in helping this year, that might be willing to help in a larger capacity next year, or the PTO is at risk. The final Wendy’s Night for the 2013/2014 school year is this Monday, May 19th from 5-8 PM at the Ankeny Wendy’s. Wendy’s will donate 10% of all sales during that time frame to Ashland Ridge PTO. If flyers were not sent home, you can always print one here.
Don’t forget to give the teachers your flyer or hand it to the person working at the drive thru.

Our final PTO meeting of the year is tomorrow night at 7pm in the media center. Mr. Neppl, the new principal from Rock Creek Elementary (#10), will be speaking at the meeting and providing updates to parents whose kids will be attending Rock Creek in the Fall.
Babysitting will be provided free of charge by our 5th graders in the Kindergarten pod.

We are in desperate need of volunteers for tomorrows butter braid pick up, we have had quite a few cancellations and we have only 2 volunteers for the 4:30-6:30 spots now. If we do not get these spots filled the wait time to pick up for orders will be long.
